Aerial Yoga - Level 1

This class is taught by:

Jennifer Kennedy

Upon moving to Charlottesville in 2013 Jenn took Eliza's class by accident and instantly knew her practice would transform.
She found her 'home' with Flydog and completed 200-hr YTT with Eliza Whiteman while also recieving her Aerial level 1 certificate from Aircat Aerial Arts.
Her passion for teaching Aerial stems from 'stepping outside of your comfort zone'- she was hooked first flip!
Every class is taught with the intention of creating a playful yet informative experience, she likes to focus on building strength, body-breath awareness, and proper technique. She lives for the look on a students face when they achieve a skill - Priceless!

Amalia Oswald

Amalia Oswald is a Virginia native with a widespread movement background including yoga, dance, and various theatre movement techniques. She is a trained children's yoga teacher from ChildLight Yoga and a trained aerial yoga teacher from AirCat Aerial. She strives to approach her mat with humility, joy, strength, and playfulness to promote being a positive individual in her community.

Sarah Messer

Sarah first discovered yoga in high school as a silent and peaceful way of escaping the stress and rigor of athletics and academics. Throughout her college years, she wandered across and outside the country, finding yoga in various places and eventually landing in her own solid practice that grows with her each and every day. The more yoga she does, the more peace and serenity it brings to her life. Sarah's classes reflect her various travels and adventures, emphasizing styles and poses that inspire greater self-love, appreciation of our surroundings, and wonder for the unknown.  Sarah has her 200hr certification from Opal Yoga as well as her Aerial certification from AirCat Aerial Yoga.

Bridget Baylin

Bridget Baylin, RYT(Feb 2015) discovered yoga 1998 and has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga since 2001. Bridget loves studying other methods of yoga as well, and getting creative with her approach to teaching depending on the preferences and needs of her students. She completed 200-hour Power Vinyasa Training with Eliza Whiteman at Fly Dog in 2015. Bridget is certified to teach aerial yoga (Spark Yoga, 2015) and completed the Baron Baptiste Art of Assisting Intensive in 2016. Bridget has attended workshops and studied with many renowned teachers, including Jennifer Elliott, Kino MacGregor, Tim Miller, Chuck Miller, Sharron Honeycutt and Sadie Nardini and is always eager to learn more. She is now focusing her training on Ayurveda and integrated wellness, and is eager to share what she knows about promoting balance in mind and body with her students. Bridget’s class focuses on building strength, alignment and breath control so that her students can explore the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga. She believes that anyone can do yoga and provides specific practice modifications to meet her students’ individual goals. Bridget loves to share the gifts of a structured yoga practice with others and thinks that yoga allows people to check in with their best selves. She hopes that her students of all levels can enjoy increased energy, physical well-being and serenity through yoga.

Aerial Yoga Basics class is designed for students who have had little or no experience with aerial yoga and is a prerequisite for attending any other Aerial Yoga class. We will focus on developing the fundamental skills that will help you take a regular class. The skills we will cover include but are not limited to: learning how to handle the hammock, alignment, safe entry on and off equipment, introduction to basic inversions and foot locks, developing upper body and core strength, alignment and breathing.

It is very important for students to arrive a minimum of 10 minutes before the start of class so that their hammock may be sized properly.  Students who do not arrive at least five minutes before the start of class may find their spot has been given to a standby student.

Clothing requirements: short or long sleeves (no tank tops); no zippers or metal. No jewelry.
No yoga mats required.
Physical Restrictions: Please talk to the instructor before class if you have any concerns. People who have heart disease, high blood pressure, vertigo, eye diseases (such as glaucoma), or are pregnant should consult their doctors first before trying inversions.
